FASHION OVERHAUL
The fashion industry supported by the entertainment industry has risen to become one of the most profitable and powerful industry worldwide.
However, the same cannot be said ABOUT the fashion industry in Kenya.
It just hit me while watching a popular international entertainment channel that Kenya indeed has a lot of catching up to do.
Our contribution to the fashion industry worldwide is negligible. We need to come up with projects and initiatives that will stir the fashion community worldwide. Its a high time our impact is felt in the industry.
Welcome to my 101 series of 'fashion overtakes Kenya'
a)FASHION CONTENT
The best place to start is to harness our creativity. Uniqueness and originality is key. In order for us to get noticed we have got to stand out. All our local TV fashion shows, unfortunately few, are imitations of programmes that exist already. We should therefore desist from imitating and reproducing what is already there.
I look forward to the day when I can cosy up on my sofa over a cup of latte as I watch a whole hour of my favorite local fashion TV show without feeling like am watching a backfired version of something I watched yesterday evening on E News.
Kate Hudson looking flawless at the Golden Global Awards.
b) FASHION DESIGNERS.
Its a no brainer when I say the Gucci, channel, dolce n gabana just to mention but a few, will forever be house hold brands, however,I am of the opinion that we as Kenyan have the power to make our own local designers house hold names as well. How do we do that?by proudly wearing designs as we briskly walk on our red carpets or as we spruce up for that event.Who else can make them a brand if not us.

c)FASHION MAGAZINE.
I need me a Kenyan vogue! Can I hear me an Amen. I still wonder why we don't have fashion magazines in Kenya. Probably its lack of enough content or maybe lack of an audience.I'll get back to you on that. You get my point though,am tired of reading little snippets of fashion stories here and there.

d) FASHION/RED CARPET EVENTS.
When it comes to fashion and red carpet events,we are catching up real fast, thanks to our event organizers.
However there is always room for improvement. We need to glam it up a little more. We need to see trends being set on our red carpet. The event coverage has also got to be improved..Did u know that
at this years Golden Globe Awards, there were around 18 cameras just to cover
the event.Namely the glam cam which gives an overview of your outfit
from head to toe,for the selfie lovers an access selfie cam, and the
mani-cam where u get to strut your latest piece of nail art or your expensive
hand jewellery on a tiny piece of red carpet as the camera captures it
all.How cool is that!
Keep your eyes peeled for the next read of our continuing series of 'fashion overtakes Kenya'.
